Meditative

_MG_9756.JPG

I have chosen the mandala as a central motif for this series of teapots because of its traditional association with meditation and enlightenment in Hindu and Buddhist religions. The mandala’s circle represents wholeness and unity while the lotus flower is connected to purity and spiritual awakening. The repetitive lines and pattern of the carvings offer the user a point of focus in order to help guide them through their experience with the object. The round forms work with the imagery to evoke a sense of relaxation; they encourage the user to move with intent, and to be mindful of every action and of their surroundings, allowing the individual to quiet their mind and truly be in the present moment.  Each experience is unique, each moment so precious; I wish for my pieces to help provide a better understanding of self through meditation, and a greater appreciation for the gift of life on this earth.
